Liliana Velez is Employee of the Fourth Quarter

Liliana Velez:
“My co-workers are great and management is awesome!”

Liliana Velez, a Loan Service Representative in our Central Falls office, says it was “a big surprise” when she learned she had been selected as the Credit Union’s Employee of the Quarter. “I was in shock! I never expected it.”

She isn’t even sure why she was chosen, but would guess that perhaps it has to do with the fact that she deals with many people over the course of her workday, and “they all seem very comfortable with me.” Liliana helps those members through the loan process — for consumer, home equity and auto loans — from the initial application to the close, serving as their primary contact throughout the life of the loan, and as a friendly face at the Main Office well beyond that.

Liliana moved with her family from Colombia to Central Falls when she was just five. The fact that she is bi-lingual (Spanish is her native language) is also an advantage for members, she feels. Her colleague in loan servicing — Mary Ann Silva — is fluent in Portuguese. Between them, they can overcome most communication barriers and put members at ease.

Providing outstanding member service has been Liliana’s goal since she joined Dexter Credit Union over 22 years ago. She began her career with us as a teller and — thanks to “excellent in-house training,” she says —made a move to the loan department in 1996. 

Liliana says she has been happy in her job since Day One, overjoyed to be working in a family-oriented organization where her co-workers are “great” and management is “awesome.”
